NY GIANTS STEAL A CENTER IN THE SECOND ROUND

John Micheal Schmitz was considered by many as the best center in the 2023 NFL Draft. Once again general manager Joe Schoen showed patience and resolve, his reward, Schmitz siting there at pick 26 of the sencond round; 57th overall.

To win drafts the key is positional value. Not all your picks are going to become Hall of Famers, as NY Giants have witnessed over the last decade. Getting a player the caliber of Schmitz, most likely the starter as a rookie, where they got him is winning.

6’3 1/2″ and 301 pounds Schmitz is a catalyst at the center position. He plays with aggressiveness and a nasty streak when needed. The knock on him was the 32 5/8″ arm length considered below average for his size and position. He is extemely intelligent making his calls at the line, before the play. Loves to run block and uses great footwork to find angles in zone-scheme. HE will need to work getting to the second level as he showed some weakness there. He is very consistent in finishing blocks, which you love to see. Some work to do on the pass blocking side, but he is easy to coach and learns quickly.
An All-American as a senior at Minnesota, Schmitz is just the throwback player the NY Giant need to anchor their offensive line.
