With the chaos surrounding the NY Giants this pre-season so far, Daniel Jones is staying cool and continuing to build a rapport with his star running back Saquan Barkley. Jones said, “Barkley is a big part of the offense” but he realizes the contract talks are between the back and the Giants.

The NY Giants would no doubt like to secure star running back Saquan Barkley by the July 17th deadline. I believe Barkley would also like to hit that deadline. I absolutely believe Daniel Jones wants that as well. The two have become good friends and as the NY Giants offense goes, Barkley goes.

The Giants placed the franchise tag on Barkley in March. Barkley has refused to sign the tag and remains out of minicamp becasue of it. He took some critism as the Giants did submit an offer worth close to $14 million (with incentives), Barkley declined looking for closer to $16 million.

Barkley told Adam Schefter:

“As I have previously stated, I’m not looking to set any contract records,” Barkley said. “I’m not demanding to be the highest paid player at my position.

“…My goal is just to be compensated respectfully based on my contributions to the team on the field and in the locker room. I’ve been in talks with the Giants throughout the offseason. If at some point there’s a deal to be made that is fair to both sides on the table, I’ll be ready to sign.”

Jones signed a $160 million extension in March as well and has publicly stated that Barkley needs to be on the team.
