SAQUAN BARKLEY REJECTS A $14M CONTRACT FROM THE NY GIANTS

Saquan Barkley continues to say positive things about getting a multi-year deal done. NY Giants GM Joe Schoen has also publicly stated he is certain a deal will get done.

Joe Schoen was true to his word and spoke with Saquan Barkleys reps right after the draft. The sides seem no closer to a deal as Barkley rejected the, multiple offers, including a multi-year deal worth $13 million with incentives that would push the deal to $14 million. This according to a report from NJ.com.

It does seem that Barkley and his agent overestimated the running back market. The 2023 running back free agent market was topped by former Philadelphia Eagle Miles Sanders; ironically the he replaced Barkley at Penn State after Barkley was drafted by the NY Giants. Sanders ultimately signed with Carolina for 4 years, 25.4 million, $13 million guaranteed. Right now Barkley is on the franchise tag worth $10.09, which he has not signed and seems very distraught over it, sitting out voluntary workouts with the team.
The NY Giants did draft Oklahoma star running back Eric Gray in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. They also resigned Barkleys back-up from last year Matt Breida.

Losing the All-Pro would be a devasting shift to the Ny Giants somewhat revamped offense. Barkley had 10 touchdowns last year rushing for 1,312 yards on 295 carriers.
